Job Title: Mechanical Technician u2013 Automation Equipment (Aerospace) Job Description The Mechanical Technician will work as part of an engineering services team within a high-precision aerospace manufacturing environment, supporting a large new equipment installation. The role focuses on building, installing, aligning, and commissioning custom automation cells and tooling that will be used to manufacture components destined for space. This is a hands-on position that requires strong mechanical assembly skills, experience with automation equipment, and the ability to collaborate closely with controls engineers during startup and commissioning. Responsibilities + Support the buildout, installation, and commissioning of automation cells within a high-precision aerospace production facility. + Perform hands-on mechanical assembly, installation, alignment, and debug of custom automation equipment and tooling. + Read and interpret assembly prints and bills of materials (BOMs) to accurately build and install custom equipment. + Work with pneumatic systems, identifying and troubleshooting leak and flow issues to ensure reliable operation. + Handle hydraulic and mechanical power transmission components during assembly, installation, and maintenance activities. + Participate in debug and commissioning activities, documenting findings and contributing to commissioning reports. + Perform root cause analysis on mechanical issues and implement effective corrective actions. + Collaborate closely with the controls engineering team during equipment startup to ensure production readiness. + Verify that all mechanical assemblies meet required specifications, tolerances, and quality standards, including GD&T requirements where applicable. + Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, performance, and maintainability. Essential Skills + Hands-on experience building and working with automation equipment or robotic work cells. + Proficiency in mechanical assembly, including installation, alignment, and adjustment of custom automation equipment and tooling. + Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, assembly prints, and bills of materials (BOMs). + Strong understanding of pneumatic systems, including the ability to troubleshoot leaks and flow issues. + Experience working with hydraulic components and mechanical power transmission systems. + Mechanical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose and resolve issues during debug and commissioning. + Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) as it applies to mechanical assemblies. + Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including controls engineers, during startup and commissioning. + Comfort working in a fast-paced project environment with tight timelines and high precision requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in an aerospace manufacturing or other high-precision production environment. + Background in building or supporting custom automation cells and tooling. + Exposure to robotic work cells and automated production lines. + Experience contributing to commissioning reports and documentation. + Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in all mechanical assembly and installation work. + Willingness to travel or work on additional projects at other facilities within the United States after successful completion of this assignment. Work Environment This position is fully on-site at an aerospace manufacturing facility in Rockledge, Florida supporting a major new automation installation. The role is project-based, expected to last approximately 5u20136 months, with the potential to transition to additional projects across the United States based on performance and business needs. The work involves a hands-on, shop-floor environment where state-of-the-art aerospace technology and custom automation equipment are developed, built, and commissioned. Typical hours follow a Mondayu2013Friday schedule with 10-hour workdays, supporting active production and startup activities. The facility focuses on high-precision manufacturing for components used in space applications, offering exposure to advanced automation systems, robotic cells, and cutting-edge aerospace processes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Whitmore Lake, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
