Benefits.Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PMCompany-issued tools, service vehicle, and gas card during working hoursSERVICE AREAWestern and Central New York Dispatched from Buffalo or home field locationPosition OverviewAs an Installation Technician / Upfitter, you will scope, program, install, troubleshoot, maintain, remove, and service two-way mobile radios, repeaters, tablets, wireless modems, speakers, lights, sirens, center consoles, antennas, related accessories, and the wiring that supports them in customer vehicles. The work directly supports law enforcement, fire, EMS, public works, school transportation, towing, and other commercial fleet operations across the region. This is a hands-on, field-based role for someone who takes pride in clean installations, dependable service, and work that genuinely matters to the communities we serve.What You Will Doa)Plan and install two-way radios and related equipment into police cruisers, K-9 units, fire trucks, ambulances, plow trucks, school buses, tow trucks, and other commercial vehicles.b)Use service software to receive tasks, document work, and complete assignments accurately and on time.c)Program portable and mobile radios using the correct software, cables, and manufacturer procedures.d)Diagnose and correct charge-guard, power-drain, no-power, antenna-line, and related low voltage installation issues.e)Run RF cabling, power lines, antenna lines, and CAT5/6 cabling; cut, splice, and terminate wiring using proper endpoints and hardware.f)Install power supplies, distribution panels, backup power systems, and batteries while applying sound AC/DC power practices and Ohm's Law fundamentals.g)Work with vehicle center consoles, radio brackets, filler plates, and other vehicle-specific mounting hardware.h)Assist with vehicle scoping, installation quoting, close-out processes, and other required service workflows.i)Maintain company-issued tools, equipment, and service vehicles to ensure readiness and serviceability.j)Coordinate closely with the Service Coordinator, sales team, and fellow technicians to deliver quality work and strong customer experience.Work Environmenta)Business hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.b)This role primarily reports to Saias Buffalo office, on occasion, to customer locations throughout Western and Central New York.c)Dispatch may originate from the Buffalo office or the technician's home field location, depending on the assignment.Qualificationsa)High school diploma required.b)12-volt installation experience preferred (2+ years preferred in the original posting).c)Technical training and certifications are valued, including OSHA, R56, Motorola, Kenwood, Harris, and related programs.d)Related military experience or MOS training is a plus.e)Electrical Engineering or Computer Science education is a plus.f)Driver's license preferredTechnical Skills & Strengthsa)Ability to work independently and as an active member of a team.b)Strong multitasking, organization, time management, and prioritization skills.c)Systematic troubleshooting approach and a strong foundation in technology.d)Knowledge of low-voltage electrical work, Ohm's Law, RF theory, and antenna propagation.e)Understanding basic IP networking and digital systems.f)Ability to follow a scope of work, rack diagrams, wiring diagrams, and system drawings.g)Self-motivated, process-driven, and committed to high-quality workmanship.
