Job Title: Machinist Job Description This role is for a CNC Machinist in a job shop environment, responsible for setting up and running vertical CNC mills to produce custom parts. You will manage the full machining process from reading blueprints and sourcing material to producing parts, performing first article inspections, and maintaining tight tolerances. Responsibilities + Set up and operate vertical CNC mills in a job shop environment, performing 2u20133 setups per day. + Run production parts from start to finish, ensuring parts meet all specifications and quality standards. + Read and interpret engineering blueprints and prints to determine machining requirements. + Retrieve and prepare raw materials needed to manufacture parts according to job specifications. + Perform first article inspections on machined parts to verify conformance to drawings and tolerances. + Use precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to measure and verify dimensions. + Adjust machine feeds and speeds as needed to optimize part quality and machining efficiency. + Maintain the ability to consistently hold tight tolerances of +/- .001 on assigned parts. + Carry out minor preventive maintenance on assigned machines to ensure reliable operation. + Apply knowledge of G & M codes and machine setup practices to efficiently complete jobs. + Work with tolerances and quality requirements specific to custom parts for various industries. + Collaborate with team members and communicate any issues related to quality, tooling, or machine performance. Essential Skills + Hands-on CNC machining experience, ideally with CNC mills in a production or job shop setting. + Proficiency in CNC machine setup, including tooling, offsets, and program loading. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately. + Demonstrated ability to hold and maintain tight tolerances of +/- .001 on machined parts. + Experience using precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. + Knowledge of CNC machining processes and G & M codes. + Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and quality inspection practices. + Ability to perform first article inspections and document results as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Previous experience working in a job shop environment. + Experience machining large or oversized parts. + Familiarity with Okuma machines and controls. + Background in producing custom parts for industries such as agriculture, transportation, or shipping. + Ability to perform minor preventive maintenance on CNC machines. + Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Work Environment You will work in a job shop setting with approximately 40 colleagues, producing custom parts primarily for the agriculture, transportation, and shipping industries. The role is on a second shift with flexible hours from approximately noon to 8:00 p.m., with initial training provided on a day shift schedule. The shop operates CNC vertical mills and uses standard precision measuring tools and quality equipment. The environment is production-focused yet collaborative, with a variety of custom jobs that keep the work engaging and technically challenging. The dress code requires jeans, a T-shirt, and steel-toe footwear. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
