Job Details Job ID: 5608586 Job Description POSITION TITLE: Itinerant Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing LOCATION: Itinerant, case load and sites TBD. POSITION SUMMARY: The job of Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is done for the purpose/s of providing individual, direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the least restrictive environment as required by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Special Ed Supervisor of Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Director of Special Education, Building Principal(s) QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Indiana Deaf/Hard of Hearing teaching license B.S. required, M.S. preferred. Some proficiency in sign language required; ASL, CASE, Signed English DUTIES: + Demonstrate the ability to maintain a schedule, be punctual, maintain confidentiality, and meet assigned responsibilities. + Demonstrate effectiveness in analyzing studentu2019s formative and summative data, providing differentiated instruction and accommodating curriculum and materials to meet the individualized needs of struggling students. + Demonstrate effectiveness in using formative assessments to guide reading instruction. + Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of language development and refinement needed by Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. + Demonstrate ability to obtain, review, and maintain available medical/ audiological information pertaining to the studentu2019s performance and probable use of hearing to share with parent, teacher, and other appropriate staff. + Must have teaching experience with developing and implementing lesson plans, classroom activities, and classroom management. + Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies, methodology, and materials for students receiving special education services. + Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school. + Demonstrate the ability to observe students in the classroom to evaluate and report on auditory access to and outcome of instruction, attending skills, coping/repair strategies, use of residual hearing, and effectiveness of hearing equipment. + Demonstrate the ability to provide in-service training to administrators, support staff, teachers and parents regarding the characteristics and educational implications of a hearing loss. + Involve parents and guardians as partners in their studentu2019s IEP development, educational development, post secondary opportunities, and provide support and education for hearing loss. + Actively participate in professional development activities. Work closely with coaches, Administration, district level curriculum department and special education support team. + Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with Hearing Aids, Hearing Aid Assistive Technology, Cochlear Implants and BaHau2019s. + Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity of Auditory Training, Use of Interpreters, Speech and Speech- Reading, and Total Communication. Desired Experience and/or Training: + At least five years experience as an educator for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing; applicant must not have had a recommendation for a Performance Improvement Plan on their most recent evaluation. + History of timely and accurate IEP development and completion. + Experience dealing with families and students from a diverse range of economic, social and ethnic backgrounds. Experience with urban education setting. + Use of technology within instruction. + Experience in use of Power School Special Programs. + Prefer Bilingual Skills; Spanish CLOSING DATE: Until position is filled.
