This role supports the planning and design of performance, education, civic, hospitality, and entertainment facilities and is part of a close‑knit team of highly qualified lighting designers. Our team is collaborative, technically curious, and deeply focused on delivering best‑in‑class solutions through thoughtful design, advanced analysis tools, and clear, responsive client communication.The Lighting Design Consultant will contribute to multiple concurrent projects, preparing reports and specifications, developing drawings, validating designs through illuminance modeling software, and conducting on‑site lighting measurements as needed. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of delivering accurate, high‑quality work in a dynamic consulting environment.This is a work‑from‑home position, and candidates are welcome to apply from major cities beyond those specifically listed.Contribute to the project design team, bringing a creative, collaborative, evidence-based approach to lighting designCollaborate with architectural team members and clientsPerform client interviews and draft a Lighting Basis of DesignDevelop high-quality lighting design reports, drawings, details, illuminance models, cost analyses, and specification documentsAnalyze lighting solutions using computer modeling softwareReview and approve submittals and shop drawings Perform on-site lighting measurements and controls testingPerform on-site inspections to review the implementation of a project’s Lighting Design solutionsCoordinate with the firm Principals and marketing staff with business development activities, including sales meetings, short-list interviews and proposals Attend project meetings, site visits, virtual conferences, and perform onsite observations and testingAssist with business development activities as requested Ensure that all work is completed on-time, on-budget, and consistently within NV5’s high standards of qualityPerform additional duties as assignedA healthy appetite for technical exploration and professional development A minimum of 6 years’ experience as a consultant in lighting designExperience in business development for professional services, with a focus on Lighting, is a plusBachelor’s degree in architectural lighting design, stage lighting design, or electrical engineering including relevant classes or a degree concentration in lighting design is required.Lighting Certification (LC) and Certified Lighting Controls Professional (CLCP) certifications are not required but highly desirableExpertise in a broad range of Lighting Design disciplines, including interior architectural lighting design, stage lighting design, lighting for the video camera, exterior and site lighting designExceptional attention to detailExcellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated values of integrity, responsibility, and accountabilityWorks equally well as an individual contributor or team memberMaintains a professional and positive attitude in a fast paced and occasionally high-pressure environmentExpertise in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel & OutlookExperience with AGi32, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, and Illuminating Engineering Society Lighting Library Reference Standards; experience with ElumeTools desirable but not requiredExperience with Lighting Codes, including CA Title 24, ASHRAE 90.1, and IECCExperience with Revit / BIM desirable but not requiredAll candidates must be driven to satisfy the needs of end users and have the ability to deliver high caliber results in a timely manner while operating without direct supervision. Some overnight travel may be required.
