Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: POSITION PURPOSE Furnishes sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment and services for the care and treatment of patients. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Decontamination of Equipment and Supplies + Decontaminates dirty equipment and supplies. + Sorts items for proper handling and cleaning. + Selects appropriate cleaning processes and required levels of decontamination. + Receives, sorts, and cleans instruments and equipment in accordance with departmental policies and AAMI standards. + Disassembles surgical instrument trays and equipment following manufacturer recommendations. + Decontaminates and processes instrumentation using washer disinfectors and/or sonic cleaners. 2. Preparation of Non-Sterile Equipment and Supplies + Ensures proper care, handling, assembly, and storage of equipment. + Makes routine rounds to collect dirty equipment and supplies. + Maintains inventory levels and fills supply requests according to established procedures. + Cleans hospital equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. + Distributes clean hospital equipment, sterile supplies, and non-surgical instruments to patient care areas. 3. Instrument Assembly + Inspects and assembles instruments according to pick cards and content lists. + Wraps instruments following established specifications. + Loads and unloads sterilization carts and stores items in designated locations. + Assembles all instrument trays, kits, packs, and individual instruments using prescribed procedures. + Wraps and labels instrument sets with appropriate identifying information. 4. Distribution and Storage of Sterile Supplies + Prepares and assembles case carts using preference cards and resource maps. + Delivers equipment and supplies as scheduled or requested. + Identifies and communicates the need for additional inventory. + Ensures case carts are assembled completely and accurately. 5. Sterilization of Equipment + Loads and unloads sterilization carts and stores processed items appropriately. + Uses proper techniques for processing and transporting sterile items. + Identifies and sorts instruments for the correct sterilization method. + Operates and monitors steam sterilizers and other designated equipment. + Labels, loads, records, and sterilizes items according to established procedures and sterilization logs. + Distributes and stores all processed trays, instruments, and equipment in designated areas. + Performs, incubates, interprets, and documents biological test results per policy. + Initiates recall procedures in the event of positive biological test results, in accordance with policy. 6. Patient Transport u2013 MercyOne Cedar Falls + Selects appropriate modes of transportation and required equipment. + Verifies patient identification to ensure correct patient and chart transport. + Performs patient preparation activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse. + Consults with nursing staff as needed. + Ensures patient safety and comfort at all times. + Responds appropriately to emergency situations. + Cleans and resets operating and procedure rooms as required. 7. Safety, Infection Control, and Employee Health + Adheres to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures. + Attends required safety programs and trainings. + Properly and consistently uses required personal protective equipment. + Demonstrates knowledge of departmental emergency procedures, including fire and disaster response. + Actively participates in emergency drills and regulatory safety programs. + Completes and routes incident reports accurately and in a timely manner. + Utilizes equipment safely and reports unsafe conditions or equipment. + Requests assistance as needed to ensure safety for all. + Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe work habits. 8. Compliance and Ethical Standards + Maintains working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations. + Adheres to Trinity Healthu2019s Organizational Integrity Program and Standards of Conduct. + Follows all organizational policies and procedures in a manner that reflects ethical, honest, and professional behavior. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Basic Skills & Abilities + Ability to read, write, and understand the English language. + Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians while performing job duties. + Demonstrates basic language comprehension and reasoning ability. + Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience & Certifications + Minimum of six (6) months of experience working with surgical instruments and assisting in patient care preferred . + Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
