Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) + Prepares athletic fields for sporting events by chalking the fields according to specified dimensions, watering infields, and setting bases; + Participates in the maintenance of synthetic turf and skinned surface sports fields which includes checking infill depth, vacuuming and deep cleaning, replacement and repair, renovation and laser grading, and edging; + Performs routine maintenance to landscape and turf grass areas within the park including, seeding, mowing, weed eating, debris removal, mulching, and watering; + Inspects sports fields for safe and fair play; + Operates mowing and other sports field maintenance equipment; + Participates in the application of pesticides and fertilizers; operates and calibrates pesticide and fertilizer application equipment; + Leads daily operations, monitors facilities during tournaments and sporting events, and assigns work to seasonal employees according to needs and performance standards; + Maintains routine records and reports; + Assists in general facility and restroom maintenance, as well as trash and litter removal; maintains the orderliness of indoor sports facilities, gymnasium floors, and common areas; + Inspects sports field maintenance equipment for mechanical readiness and safety; + May perform light maintenance and repair of sports field maintenance equipment, as needed. Minimum Qualifications One (1) year of experience in sports field maintenance. Possession of a valid driveru2019s license. Some positions may require possession of a valid Commercial Applicator License (Turf Pests, Industrial Vegetation, and/or Landscape category) issued by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Test/Job Contact Information The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Oral Comprehension, Map Reading, Safety, Sports Field Maintenance, Measuring, Tool and Equipment Identification, and 2019/2021 Word, Outlook, and Excel. The exam is expected to be administered in June 2026. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
