Job Description

Under the direction of the Deputy Director for Substance Use Services (Health Science Specialist), Research Scientist 3 will conduct support evaluation projects in the Office of Substance Use Services, within the Division of Syndemic and Substance Use Services. The Research Scientist 3 will conduct the following activities: Support and collaborate with a team of Research Scientists/program staff and an external evaluation implementing and evaluating opioid settlement funded initiatives in the Substance Use Services unit. Implement and carry out evaluation initiatives designed by senior SSUS staff to support the work of the Office of Substance Use Services. This includes, under the direction of the Deputy Director, Executive Director, and senior program/evaluation staff, the analysis of client level data; supporting the design of data collection instruments; the collection of survey data. Learning to utilize various software and evaluation tools, such as statewide databases, Qualtrics, and qualitative coding software to support data collection, analysis, and reporting. Preparing sound, accurate evaluation and annual reports to meet statutory requirements of programs and to effectively communicate findings and recommendations for internal and external audiences, including grantees and contractors, funders/advisory boards, and leadership. Provide evaluation and program data analysis expertise to programmatic staff in Substance Use Services. Research and apply for funding opportunities to maintain and expand current DOH activities to research, understand, and address the overdose epidemic and substance use services for the State, including integration of project-specific activities with broader state-funded efforts, as well as additional federal grants and cooperative agreements. REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in a field appropriate to the position. NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above. LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
