As a Senior Back-end Software Engineer within PNC's Retail Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA, Dallas, TX, Strongsville, OH, Birmingham, AL, Phoenix, AZ, Lakewood, CO or Philadelphia, PA. We are seeking a skilled Senior Back-end Software Engineer to design, build, and support highu2011quality, scalable backend services. This role focuses on modern Java development using Spring and reactive programming principles, deploying cloudu2011native applications, and collaborating closely with crossu2011functional Agile teams to deliver reliable and secure solutions aligned with business needs. The ideal candidate is proactive, communicative, and comfortable working in fastu2011paced Agile environments while maintaining high engineering and security standards. Key Responsibilities: u00b7 Develop and maintain highu2011quality, scalable backend services using Java (18+) and the Spring framework, with handsu2011on experience in Spring WebFlux for reactive, nonu2011blocking applications u00b7 Design, implement, and support RESTful APIs, applying reactive programming principles and following established architectural and security standards u00b7 Build and maintain application data interactions using NoSQL databases, with preference for MongoDB, including query development when needed u00b7 Deploy, run, and support applications on cloudu2011native platforms based on Kubernetes, including experience with OpenShift u00b7 Perform ongoing application maintenance, including troubleshooting, defect resolution, and performance tuning in both development and production environments u00b7 Utilize standard debugging, logging, monitoring, and diagnostic tools to efficiently identify and resolve application issues u00b7 Collaborate and communicate effectively with Business partners, Product Owners, and Agile team members to ensure technical solutions align with business requirements u00b7 Actively participate in backlog refinement and grooming sessions by reviewing requirements, validating technical feasibility, and identifying dependencies early u00b7 Proactively ask questions, clarify requirements, and raise concerns to reduce ambiguity and improve overall solution quality u00b7 Work within an Agile development team to deliver reliable, wellu2011tested, and maintainable software u00b7 Adhere to secure coding practices, engineering standards, and SDLC processes established within the organization Skills & Qualifications: u00b7 Strong experience with Java (version 18 or higher) u00b7 Proficiency with the Spring framework, including Spring WebFlux u00b7 Solid understanding of reactive programming concepts and nonu2011blocking application design u00b7 Experience designing and supporting RESTful APIs u00b7 Handsu2011on experience with NoSQL databases, preferably MongoDB u00b7 Working knowledge of containerized, cloudu2011native application deployment, including Kubernetes and OpenShift u00b7 Experience troubleshooting and supporting applications in production environments u00b7 Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and observability tools u00b7 Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in Agile/Scrum teams u00b7 Ability to translate business requirements into sound technical solutions u00b7 Commitment to secure coding and adherence to engineering standards Preferred / Niceu2011tou2011Have Skills: u00b7 Exposure to frontend development using Angular u00b7 Ability to contribute to or maintain useru2011facing components when needed PNC is an in-office company that fosters a supportive culture where employees can thrive and achieve balance. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
