Job Title: Pharmacy Technician IntakeJob Description The Pharmacy Technician Intake supports a specialty pharmacy by accurately creating and updating patient and provider records, reviewing referrals and prescriptions for completeness, and serving as a key communication point with providers. This role works on moderately complex assignments that require sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to make routine recommendations while ensuring that downstream teams can efficiently and safely serve patients. The position is office-based with no direct in-person patient contact, and all patient interactions occur over the phone. Responsibilities + Work on moderately complex intake assignments where sound judgment is required to resolve issues and make routine recommendations. + Review the contents of referrals to ensure all required information is complete, accurate, and appropriate for processing. + Create accurate patient profiles from scanned or faxed images by entering correct patient and provider information into the system. + Conduct an initial check of prescriptions to ensure clinical accuracy and readiness for processing by other pharmacy teams. + Communicate with providers by phone regarding referral status, prescription clarifications, missing information, and patient concerns to ensure all information is collected and accurate. + Update concise and clear progress notes so that other roles within the workflow can quickly assess the status of each referral. + Enter new provider information, including National Provider Identifier (NPI) details, accurately into the system to support reporting and business intelligence activities. + Perform accurate and efficient data entry related to pharmacy intake, referrals, and provider information. + Collaborate effectively with colleagues in a call center environment to support high-quality, timely service to patients and providers. + Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy operations and patient care. Essential Skills + Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) national certification in good standing and without restrictions. + Active registration as a pharmacy technician with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy (NCBOP). + Prior experience working in a pharmacy setting. + Approximately 2 or more years of pharmacy operations experience, preferably in a pharmacy or related healthcare environment. + Demonstrated experience in call center or high-volume phone-based work, particularly related to pharmacy or healthcare verification. + Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail. + Competence in basic computer skills and the ability to work within pharmacy software systems. + Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and referrals efficiently. + Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. + Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and external providers. + Conscientious, detail-oriented approach to documentation and record keeping. + Flexibility and adaptability to changing processes, schedules, and project needs. + High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Healthcare experience beyond pharmacy, such as working in other clinical or administrative healthcare roles, is preferred. + Experience working in a specialty pharmacy environment is beneficial. + Comfort working in a structured call center environment with phone-based communication as the primary interaction method. + Ability to quickly learn new systems, workflows, and documentation requirements. + Strong written communication skills for clear and concise progress notes and documentation. + Commitment to providing accurate, timely, and patient-focused service. + Willingness to work varying shifts within the stated operating hours as business needs evolve. Work Environment This role is based in an office and call center environment within a rapidly growing specialty pharmacy. The pharmacy operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time and is closed on weekends and major holidays. During certain project periods, such as reverification, the schedule may be onsite Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with later shifts (such as 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.) introduced after specific project phases. After training, the position transitions to a hybrid work model, typically with two days onsite and three days working from home each week. Work is conducted primarily over the phone with no direct in-person patient contact, and involves extensive use of computers, pharmacy software, and data entry systems. The environment is professional, structured, and collaborative, with a focus on simplifying access to medication and delivering personalized care that supports the best possible outcomes for patients. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
