Job Title: Health & Safety Coordinator Job Description Health & Safety Coordinator role focuses on supporting construction and manufacturing safety operations in the greater Detroit and Ypsilanti areas. You will work closely with the Health and Safety Manager to conduct field inspections, perform hazard analyses, support compliance activities, and help drive a strong safety culture across multiple job sites. This position is ideal for someone early in their safety career who is eager to gain hands-on experience in utility, industrial, or commercial construction environments. Responsibilities + Support the Health and Safety Manager in implementing and maintaining health and safety programs across multiple construction and manufacturing sites. + Travel daily using a company vehicle to various job sites in the outskirts of Detroit and Ypsilanti, starting each day from the Belleville location. + Spend approximately 70% of the time in the field at utility construction sites, observing work activities and ensuring adherence to safety standards. + Conduct site safety inspections to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and at-risk behaviors, and document findings in a clear and timely manner. + Perform hazard analyses for construction and utility work, including identifying risks and recommending appropriate controls and mitigation measures. + Support compliance activities by completing new hire safety paperwork, PEP documentation, and all required forms associated with audits and regulatory requirements. + Participate in site visits and safety audits, ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and properly filed. + Lead or assist with investigations of incidents, near misses, and injuries, gathering facts, interviewing involved parties, and determining root causes. + Develop and implement corrective actions following incidents, near misses, and injuries, and follow up to verify their effectiveness in preventing recurrence. + Promote construction safety best practices and OSHA safety standards at all times, reinforcing safe behaviors and addressing unsafe practices in the field. + Collaborate with supervisors, field personnel, and office staff to support a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement in safety performance. + Use safety data and audit findings to help identify trends and recommend improvements to health and safety processes and procedures. Essential Skills + Related field or approximately 1u20132 years of safety-related experience in construction or manufacturing. + Background in construction or manufacturing safety, with exposure to utility construction, industrial construction, or commercial construction environments. + Understanding of health and safety principles, including inspections, hazard analysis, and incident investigation. + Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and construction safety practices. + Ability to spend about 70% of the time in the field at utility construction sites and 30% in an office setting. + Valid driving record and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), as the role requires regular use of a company vehicle. + Strong attention to detail for completing safety documentation, audit paperwork, and incident reports accurately. + Effective communication skills to interact with field crews, supervisors, and management about safety issues and corrective actions. + Capability to work independently in the field while following established safety procedures and company policies. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bacheloru2019s degree or relevant post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, construction management, industrial hygiene, or a related field is a plus but not required. + 3u20135 years of health and safety experience in utility construction, industrial construction, or commercial construction is considered an asset for more advanced responsibilities. + OSHA 30 certification or equivalent construction safety training is highly desirable. + Experience conducting safety audits, site safety inspections, and hazard assessments in construction environments. + Prior involvement in incident, near-miss, and injury investigations, including implementing and tracking corrective actions. + Familiarity with documentation processes for compliance audits and regulatory requirements. + Comfort working within teams that utilize modern design and engineering tools, such as ESRI or similar platforms, in complex infrastructure projects. + Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining a transparent, collaborative, and safety-focused work culture. Work Environment This role combines significant field exposure with office-based work in a dynamic construction-focused setting. You will start your day in Belleville each morning and then travel using a company vehicle to various utility and construction sites in the outskirts of Detroit and Ypsilanti. Approximately 70% of your time will be spent in the field at active utility construction sites, where you will conduct inspections, hazard analyses, and safety observations in outdoor and industrial environments. The remaining 30% of your time will be in an office environment, completing documentation, reports, and compliance paperwork. The organization uses modern design and engineering tools, including ESRI-based techniques, to support complex infrastructure projects and values transparent collaboration among engineering, construction, and safety teams. Steel-toe shoes are required for field work and are provided by the employer, and jeans are also provided as part of the work attire. The role involves working around construction equipment and utility infrastructure, requiring consistent adherence to safety protocols and personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belleville, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.04 - $31.25/hr.
