Job Description

Summary The primary purpose of the Operating Room Registered Nurse is to demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others in the assigned area. They perform comprehensive circulating and scrubbing duties according to Medical Center Policy and Association of Operating Room Registered Nurses Standards and Recommended Practices. Responsibilities Major duties include, but are not limited to: Provide care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider. Demonstrate leadership and mastery of practice in delivering efficient, comprehensive, and continuous patient-driven holistic care through active collaboration, communication and coordination of resources. Consider all characteristics of the individual, including age, life stage, state of health, values and beliefs to assist each patient with the improvement of their health status to the maximum potential. Utilize core elements of performance including knowledge and active participation in unit/service level quality improvement processes, such as the customer service program. Comply with and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for reprocessing/cleaning Reusable Medical Equipment (RME), demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation specific to the assigned procedure to ensure seamless progression of the operation and assesses cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provides appropriate treatment. Patient evaluation, documentation on the intraoperative and perioperative flowsheet, creating and maintaining a sterile and safe surgical environment, pre/post-operative patient education, monitoring the patients physical and emotional well-being, and integrating and coordinating patient care throughout the surgical care continuum.
