SUMMARYWe are seeking a highly specialized Logistics & Dangerous Goods Expert to oversee the safe handling, storage, and global distribution of lithium batteries. This role is critical in ensuring our warehouse operations and outbound shipments comply with stringent international and domestic regulations. The ideal candidate is a technical authority on lithium battery classifications and possesses the certifications required to sign off on multi-modal transport documents. This position will require travel as needed. (25-30%) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation● Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all lithium battery shipping regulations, including UN3480, UN3481, UN3090, and UN3091.● Prepare and validate all Dangerous Goods (DG) documentation, including Shipper’s Declarations for Dangerous Goods, IMO Dangerous Goods Declarations, and Bill of Ladings.● Monitor changes in global regulations (IATA, IMDG, DOT) and update internal Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) accordingly.2. Multi-Modal Transportation Management● Air: Ensure 100% compliance with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), specifically focusing on State and Operator variations, State of Charge (SoC) limits (30%), and passenger vs. cargo-only aircraft restrictions.● Ocean: Manage shipments under IMDG Code requirements, ensuring proper segregation, container marking, and placarding for maritime transit.● Road: Oversee domestic ground transport in accordance with 49 CFR (DOT), managing "Excepted" vs. "Fully Regulated" shipments and ensuring driver credentials meet hazmat requirements.3. Internal Warehouse & Storage Safety● Design and maintain specialized storage zones for lithium batteries, ensuring compliance with local fire codes and insurance requirements.● Implement strict segregation protocols to keep lithium-ion and lithium-metal cells away from incompatible materials or flammable liquids.● Establish "Damaged, Defective, or Recalled" (DDR) battery handling areas and emergency response protocols for thermal runaway events.● Conduct regular audits of warehouse racking, labeling (Class 9, Lithium Battery Mark, Cargo Aircraft Only), and packaging integrity.4. Training & Supervision● Develop and deliver DG awareness training for warehouse floor staff, covering safe handling, palletization, and spill/incident response.● Audit packing lines to ensure the correct use of UN-specification packaging and required cushioning materials.SKILLS & ABILITIESEducation & Experience: The successful candidate for this role must possess a bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business or a related field or possess a minimum of 5 years experience in supply chain management focusing on the handling of dangerous goods materials. Computer Skills: Microsoft Office & G Suite a plus Certificates & Licenses: Must have a minimum B.S or equivalent hands on experience. ● IATA DGR Certification: Current certification for the transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (Category 1 or 6).● IMDG Code Certification: Valid certification for the transport of Dangerous Goods by Sea.● 49 CFR / DOT Hazmat: Deep understanding of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations for domestic U.S. transport.● Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a logistics or warehouse environment specifically focused on high-density lithium battery storage and distribution.● Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with UN 38.3 Testing Summaries and the ability to interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Language SkillsMathematical Skills● Good mathematical skillsOther Skills● Experience with Lithium Battery Safety Systems (e.g., specialized fire suppression, thermal monitoring).● Background in EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) management.● Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) with DG integration.● Proficiency in customs management software and Microsoft Office Suite.● Effective auditing practices and strong communication skills.Note to Candidates: This role requires high attention to detail.
