Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development, the Philanthropic Advisor will manage a portfolio ofapproximately 100-125 major gift prospects and play a key role in advancing the College’s most ambitious priorities.This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a relationship-driven environment, enjoys travel and autonomy, and wants to be part of a collaborative advancement team during a pivotal campaign phase.You’llpartner closely with faculty, leadership, and advancement colleagues to shape strategy, deepen donor engagement, and drive meaningful philanthropic investment.Your Contribution Will Likely Include:Managing and executing strategies for a portfolio of 100-125 major gift prospects capable of giving $100,000+Building and advancing relationships through in-person visits, written communication, and digital outreachDeveloping and implementing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to maximize donor engagementMeeting and exceeding annual fundraising goals and performance metricsPartnering with faculty and academic leaders to align donor interests with institutional prioritiesServing as a trusted advisor and liaison across the HMC community, including alumni, parents, and volunteersCollaborating across Advancement, including Alumni and Parent Relations, to enhance giving opportunitiesStaying current on philanthropy trends and applying best practices to strengthen outcomesEnsuring compliance with fundraising policies and donor management protocolsRepresentingHMC at events and engaging donors through travel, including evenings and weekends as neededExperience You Will Bring:Bachelor’s degreerequiredAt least five years of experience in major gifts fundraising within a medium-to-large development operationProventrack recordof successfullysolicitingand closing six- and seven-figure giftsExperience working in higher education and/or a capital campaign environment strongly preferredDemonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with high-net-worth individualsStrong understanding of fundraising best practices and donor lifecycle managementAbility to independently manage a portfolio while contributing to a collaborative team environmentExcellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skillsHigh levelof discretion, judgment, and professionalism when handling confidential informationStrong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesComfort working in a complex institutional environment with diverse stakeholdersWillingness and ability to travel up to two weeks per month and work occasional evenings/weekendsExperience or familiarity with entrepreneurial or innovation ecosystems (e.g., startups, VC) is a plusWhat'sin it for you:Salary range: $135,000 - $150,000 annuallyOpportunity to “own” a region and portfolio with significant autonomyExperience contributing to a major capital campaign at a top-tier institutionCollaborative, mission-driven environment within a highly respected collegeAccess to the resources and community of The Claremont Colleges consortiumEqual Opportunity Employer:Harvey Mudd College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
