Job Title: Cook Job Description This role prepares, cooks, and presents a variety of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events in a healthcare and retirement community setting. The cook follows established recipes and standards to deliver high-quality food and exceptional service while maintaining strict food safety, sanitation, and safety procedures. Responsibilities + Accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events. + Prepare and cook made-to-order foods that may require short preparation times while maintaining quality and consistency. + Prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte area and operate a grill station as needed. + Follow current applicable federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service. + Read food orders or receive verbal instructions and prepare and cook food according to specific directions and customer preferences. + Provide the highest quality of service to customers at all times, ensuring a positive dining experience. + Follow basic recipes and product directions to prepare, season, cook, taste, carve, and serve soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, baked goods, and other food items. + Operate a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables, and trim and cut meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use under direct supervision or instruction. + Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production levels, and maintain records to accurately plan production and requisition supplies and equipment. + Clean and sanitize workstations, tools, and kitchen equipment in compliance with company, client, and regulatory rules and procedures. + Attend all required training related to food allergies and foodborne illness to ensure safe food handling and preparation. + Comply with all HACCP policies and procedures and follow all company safety and risk management policies. + Report all accidents and injuries promptly and participate in regular safety meetings, safety training sessions, and hazard assessments. + Attend designated classroom and virtual training programs to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge. + Receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs and supplies, and assist with storage and rotation of products. + Prepare meals for customers requiring special diets according to specified guidelines and instructions. + Produce batch goods using basic cooking techniques, including bakery and baking tasks as needed. + Support tray line and line cook operations and contribute to overall hospitality and customer service in the dining area. Essential Skills + Proven ability to prepare, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and catered events. + Experience preparing made-to-order foods and working in a fast-paced kitchen environment. + Ability to read and follow recipes, product directions, and verbal or written food orders accurately. + Skill in operating a variety of kitchen equipment for measuring, mixing, cutting, trimming, and cooking food items. + Strong understanding of and adherence to federal, state, and corporate food service standards, guidelines, and regulations. + Knowledge of basic cooking techniques for soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and bakery items. + Commitment to providing high-quality customer service and maintaining a hospitality-focused approach. + Ability to estimate food requirements, check production levels, and assist with planning and requisitioning supplies. + Capability to clean and sanitize workstations and equipment according to company and regulatory standards. + Willingness to comply with HACCP policies and procedures and all safety and risk management guidelines. + Ability to attend and apply training on food allergies, foodborne illnesses, safety, and operational procedures. + Physical ability to receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs and supplies, and stand for extended periods in a kitchen environment. + Flexibility to work rotating weekends and holidays and adapt to varying schedules as business needs dictate. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience working in a healthcare, retirement, or similar institutional food service environment. + Experience in hospitality, tray line service, and line cook roles. + Exposure to bakery and baking tasks within a commercial kitchen setting. + Familiarity with planning and producing batch goods using basic cooking techniques. + Comfort working in a customer-facing environment and interacting with residents and guests in a retirement community. + Willingness to participate in ongoing classroom and virtual training programs to enhance culinary and safety skills. The work environment features moderate to loud noise levels due to kitchen equipment and service activity. Schedules may include evenings, holidays, weekends, and extended hours as business needs require, and the role involves regular use of commercial kitchen equipment and adherence to strict food safety and sanitation standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mechanicsburg, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
