Success in this role depends ondeep partnership with hospital leadership, surgical services, and theVice President of Perioperative Services for BayCare Health System, a critical enterprise partner in the delivery of high-performing acute and perioperative care. + Through strong physician leadership, disciplined execution, and close collaboration with hospital and perioperative leaders, anesthesiology serves as a critical enabler of system-wide clinical performance. Position Overview + TheMedical Directorserves as the senior physician leader for BayCare Medical Group Anesthesiology, with responsibility for clinical excellence, professional practice, workforce leadership, and operational performance of anesthesiology services across the majority of BayCareu2019s acute care hospitals. + This role provides direct physician leadership for employedanesthesiologists, CRNAs, and Anesthesiologist Assistants, supporting anesthesia coverage across operating rooms, procedural suites, labor and delivery, interventional areas, and other hospital-based settings. + The Medical Director operateswithin ahighly integrated, hospital-partnered model, working in close collaboration with Hospital Presidents, Chief Medical Officers, surgical leadership, perioperative services, nursing, and enterprise partners to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient anesthesia coverage that supports BayCareu2019s acute care mission. + This role is intentionally designed arounddyad leadership, with the Medical Director partnering closely with an anesthesia operations leader responsible for staffing, scheduling, operational execution, and financial performance. Together, thedyadshares accountability for quality, access, operational reliability, physician experience, and long-term sustainability. Qualifications + MD or DOrequired + Board Certified Anesthesiologist + Significant leadership experience in a hospital-based or large medical group anesthesiology practice + Demonstrated success in physician leadership, clinical operations, quality improvement, and workforce management + Experience leading anesthesia services across multiple hospitals strongly preferred + Proven ability to lead through influence in a collaborative, matrixed health system Role Scope and Accountability + The Medical Director, Anesthesiology holds shared accountabilityu2014throughdyadpartnershipu2014for thequality, safety, experience, operational performance, workforce sustainability, and growthof anesthesiology services across BayCare Medical Group. + This role provides physician leadership across professional practice, clinical standards, and care delivery, while partnering closely with hospital, perioperative, and operational leaders on access, staffing models, throughput, operating room efficiency, and patient addition to core leadership and management responsibilities outlined below,additionalassignmentsmay be assigned. + The Medical Directoroperateswithin amatrixed health system, balancing medical group leadership responsibilities with continuous partnership across BayCareu2019s acute care hospitals. Clinical Excellence, Quality, and Safety + Ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, and evidence-based anesthesia care across all hospital-based settings + Establish and oversee anesthesia clinical standards, protocols,qualitymetricsand policies + Drive performance in patient safety, perioperative outcomes, and regulatory compliance + Reduce unwarranted variation while supportingappropriate site-specificclinical needs + Lead quality improvement initiatives using performance data and key clinical metrics + Partner with hospital quality, safety, and risk leaders to ensure high reliability in acute care environments 2. People, Culture & Professional Fulfillment + Serve as leader, mentor, and advocate for anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and Anesthesiologist Assistants + Recruit, onboard, develop, andretaina high-performing anesthesia workforce + Partner with medical group and hospital leadership to design and execute a multi-year anesthesia workforce strategy + Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and mutual respect + Promote team-based care models within perioperative and procedural environments + Champion clinician well-being, sustainability, and joy in practice + Develop emerging physician leaders and support succession planning 3. Operational & Financial Excellence + Serve as the physician lead for anesthesia services across BayCare acute care hospitals + Partner tooptimizeanesthesia staffing models, scheduling, coverage, and call structures + Support operating room efficiency, throughput, and procedural access + Collaborate closely with surgery, perioperative services, nursing, and hospital operations + Provide physician leadership for operational improvement initiativesimpactinganesthesia and perioperative performance + Support responsible stewardship of clinical and financial resources 4. Growth, Access & Acute Care Enablement + Support BayCareu2019s surgical, procedural, and hospital growth strategies through scalable anesthesia coverage models + Anticipate and plan for growth in surgical volume,new programs, and new sites of care + Ensure anesthesia servicesremainaligned with evolving hospital, perioperative, and service line needs + Contribute to system planning for new ORs, procedural areas, and acute care expansion + Serve as a physician voice in enterprise discussions related to perioperative and acute care strategy 5.
