Job#: 3033715 Job Description: CNC Machinist IILocation: Onsite in Portsmouth, VAEmployment Type: 6-Month Contract-to-HirePay Rate: $27-$35/hour (based on experience)OverviewWe are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist II to join a growing team on a 6-month contract-to-hire basis. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on machinist who thrives in a fast-paced shop environment and is experienced in precision this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC and conventional machining equipment to produce high-quality components while maintaining tight tolerances.Key ResponsibilitiesMachining & SetupRead and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and shop sketchesSet up and operate CNC machines for drilling, milling, grinding, and related tasksPerform complex machine setups with little to no instructionSelect, install, and adjust tooling, including offsets and compensationSet and manage multiple 3-axis work offsets within a programProduction & QualityMachine raw materials to precise specifications using CNC and conventional equipmentMonitor multiple machines simultaneously and adjust offsets and G & M code as neededInspect high-precision parts using GD&T standards to ensure tolerance complianceOptimize feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies based on materials and job requirementsIdentify and manage tool wear, deflection, and performance issuesProgramming & Process OptimizationEdit and proofread G & M code at the machine and via PC (.TXT files)Perform test runs to validate programs and prevent errors or crashesApply best practices to maximize efficiency and qualityDesign and build fixtures or holding devices as neededAdditional ResponsibilitiesAssemble machined or fabricated components as requiredOperate forklifts and other shop equipment as neededMaintain a safe, clean, and organized work environmentQualificationsTechnical SkillsStrong experience performing machine setups independentlyProficiency with precision measurement tools, including:Calipers, micrometers (OD/ID/depth), bore gaugesHeight gauges, surface gauges, gauge pins/blocksSpecialty gauges (pitch, radius, thickness, etc.)Solid understanding of:GD&T and tight tolerancesTool wear, deflection, and material propertiesMethods for achieving flatness and dimensional accuracyAbility to safely operate power tools and shop equipmentEquipment Experience (Preferred)Haas, Fadal, Femco, or VTEC mills (Fanuc controls)Mazak and Haas lathes (including live tooling)EDM machinesCore CompetenciesStrong attention to detailProblem-solving mindsetAbility to work independently and manage prioritiesHigh level of focus and visual accuracyMinimum Requirements3-5 years of experience as a machinistHigh school diploma or equivalentCompletion of an apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on training programWhy This OpportunityContract-to-hire pathway with long-term potentialCompetitive pay based on experience ($27-$35/hr)Work on complex, precision machining projectsStrong team environment with opportunities to grow your skills Everforth Apex is a world-class IT services company that serves thousands of clients across the globe.
