The Associate Research Technician (ART) will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator(s) on several projects relating to the impact that environmental factors have on children's health. Currently our team is working on studies requiring team members to collect process and store biological and medical history data for NYU Factors Influencing Reproductive Success and Time to pregnancy (NYU FIRST); NYU Children's Health & Environment Study (NYU CHES); Environmental influences on child health outcomes (ECHO); NYU Pediatric Obesity, Metabolism and Kidney Cohort Center. The ART will support a growing program of work assisting mainly with day to day research activities and data collection.Job Responsibilities: Basic lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Oversees laboratory activities, including, but not limited to: biospecimen collection, processing, and storage across multiple studies; freezer management across multiple sites; manages sample inventory across multiple online and electronic platforms, such as LabVantage. Performs sample pulls from the study biorepository to fulfill investigator-led biospecimen analyses. The ART will work closely with the supervising research coordinator and the study data manager to fulfill these pulls. Performs sample shipments to external institutions for the purposes of investigator-led biospecimen analyses and/or long-term biorepository storage. Receives sample shipments from external institutions and performs quality and inventory check of samples, properly stores samples, and maintains electronic records of sample receipt. Works closely with the study biorepository (located in Cranbury, NJ) and serves as liaison between the study and the biorepository. The ART will also coordinate sample transfer and pick-up from NYU to the biorepository. Trains study staff on protocols regarding biospecimen collection, processing, and storage (CPS), and ensures quality biospecimen CPS throughout the duration of the study. The ART will be expected to provide supervisorial support for staff on protocols regarding biospecimen CPS. Assists with the ordering and tracking of laboratory supplies. Performs routine technical tasks, and assists in the general maintenance of the lab and maintain inventory of the labs supplies. Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support efficient data collection and streamlined lab workflow. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties, asks appropriate questions when in doubt, and utilizes reference sources/materials to ensure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention. Participates and performs other related duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Effective oral and written communication skills required. The salary range for the role is $46,900.00 - $55,900.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
