Senior Operations Manager - White Plains, NY Global Ocean Freight-ADM Shipping This is a full time, exempt level position. Position Summary and Responsibilities: The Global Ocean Freight department (GOF) is responsible for overseeing the day to day voyage management of dry bulk vessels. Primary customers include internal ADM counterparts and destinations. The department serves as a liaison between the vessel owner and cargo receivers and handles all aspects of the ocean freight business. The group takes operational responsibility of vessels and cargoes controlled by ADM on a global basis. The ideal candidate will be engaged in gaining a broad overview of all facets of the ocean freight business. This will include, but is not limited to"”working in vessel operations, following the loading and discharge of bulk cargoes, initiating freight payments, claims handling, calculating laytime, and settlement of freight accounts. Additional duties consist of port agency appointments, voyage optimization and performance monitoring, and liaising between various internal departments globally. As a Senior Operations Manager, the candidate must be able to mentor, develop and implement procedures for a growing team. In addition to day to day activities, the candidate is expected to lead and participate with Global Ocean Freight initiatives and projects, which require risk mitigation, asset management and cost avoidance solution. Required Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to professionally communicate with internal customers and outside brokers and agents. Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization including senior management and global destinations Coach/Mentor trainees and junior operators Distribute Fleet to Vessel operators in the absence of upper management Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Ability to problem solve and think outside of the box Limited night and weekend availability to handle any issues that may arise Works well within a dynamic group environment Critical thinker with proven track record of problem solving Independent decision making Able to cultivate and grow strong and beneficial business relationships A positive attitude and continuous improvement of skillsets Speaks/writes English fluently Ability to manage 7-10 vessels and execute daily commercial operations Proven track record of implementing and creating SOP for operational efficiencies Responsible for handling and settling of complex disputes and claims Responsible for coordinating complex stow plans with chartering, trade and vessel command Responsible for calculating optimal speed and consumption with voyage optimization efforts Monitor fleet performance Ability to negotiate vendor contracts and discounts Ability to be the project manager on various shipping projects Supervision of fleet compliance with company policy and industry regulations Experience and Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree Deck License with time at sea is a plus Previous management experience is a plus Maritime background and prior sailing experience is preferred Minimum 10+ years' experience operating dry bulk vessels Prior experience with voyage management systems such as IMOS, Softmar Prior experience with DA DESK Previous experience with Sea Cargo Charter and Scope 3 Emission reduction efforts is preferred Prior experience with bunker purchasing Knowledge and experience with Maritime regulations Experience with operating multiple commodities Experience cleaning cargo holds with managing expectations for loading next cargo Our Offer: Challenging tasks, short decision-making processes and a high level of personal responsibility in a modern work environment.
