Job Description Mission Statement Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. We all share a responsibility to advance the company''s mission by excelling at our three corporate priorities - safety of our people and the public, operational excellence in all that we do, and ensuring the best possible customer experience.Core Responsibilities Will investigate and evaluate the performance of substation mechanical systems, with a primary focus on the dielectric fluid filled systems of high voltage electric transmission feeders. Will identify and be able to communicate with other engineering disciplines and customer groups on recommended solutions, project requirements and design criteria. Will also author or revise company engineering specifications to reflect current industry standards and codes.Will prepare written scopes of work, provide direction and review construction drawing packages, perform economic analysis, and prepare appropriation requests for engineering and construction projects. Will coordinate project implementation with users and provide field support to construction groups. Monitor and report on project status, schedules and costs.Work directly with mechanical engineers in the section, and other discipline engineers as needed by project. Will serve as Lead Discipline Engineer with decision-making capability on projects; specifically, to organize and direct project work teams of discipline engineers and designers as well as coordinate with customer user groups and manufacturers on installation of new equipment. Address outage, safety and environmental constraints as required.Prepares equipment, cable and accessory purchase specifications. This includes the review and acceptance of manufacturer''s proposals and drawings.Responds to emergency calls by operating departments and makes field decisions in the area of responsibility.Performs calculations as needed related to transmission electrical parameters such as hydraulic pressures and pump setpoints.Participates in the System Emergency Assignment as needed for Corporate preparation of operating, maintenance, and test procedures.Participates in preparation of budgets, appropriations, scoping documents, concept reviews, design field walks, cost reviews.Provides technical assistance as required.Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.Required Education/Experience Bachelor''s Degree in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering And 2 years of full time work experience to include 1 year applicable experience in the application and development of technical principles and practices associated with electrical control of gas or fluid filled systems (such as gas, steam, dielectric fluid, or nitrogen) is required - ASSOCIATE ENGINEER A (1H) OrBachelor''s Degree in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering And 3 years of experience in the application and development of technical principles and practices associated with electrical control of gas or fluid filled systems (such as gas, steam, dielectric fluid, or nitrogen) is required - ENGINEER (2L) OrBachelor''s Degree in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering And 8 years of experience in the application and development of technical principles and practices associated with electrical control of gas or fluid filled systems (such as gas, steam, dielectric fluid, or nitrogen) is required - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H) OrMaster''s Degree with a Bachelors degree in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering And 6 years of experience in the application and development of technical principles and practices associated with electrical control of gas or fluid filled systems (such as gas, steam, dielectric fluid, or nitrogen) is required - SR ENGINEER (2H)Required Work Experience REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Individuals must recognize the importance of Commitment to Excellence and personnel safety (Rules We Live By), be able to provide exemplary customer service, make sound business decisions, demonstrate a high energy level, work under pressure, and be able to handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines. Experience in the application and development of technical principles and practices associated with electrical control of gas or fluid filled systems (such as gas, steam, dielectric fluid, or nitrogen) is required. Strong oral and technical writing skills are required for clear communication of system solutions and design to inter- and intra- departmental staff and customers. BS in Engineering - either Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Computer skills are essential including proficiency with AutoCad and Microsoft Office products. Must be knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles. Required PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience with dielectric fluid pressurization, circulation, and cooling associated with high pressure fluid filled underground transmission feeders Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is preferred. Familiarity with local, national, and industry codes and standards preferred. Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects preferred (required for Engineer and Sr. Engineer titles).- Proficiency using Autocad for engineering drawings-Experience writing technical specifications or operating instructions-Experience in the design, construction and installation of dielectric fluid systems for underground transmission lines-Professional Engineers License- PrefLicenses & Certifications Driver''s License RequiredOther Physical Demands Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.Must be willing and able to travel to company locations and wear the required PPE as needed.Must be willing able to travel within the Company''s service territory and surrounding areas consistently. Must be willing and able to walk extensively, climb ladders, perform inspections in manholes and trenches, and travel or walk on uneven paths indoors, outdoors.Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
