Job SummaryThe Community Health Educator will be an integral part of The Community School Resources Program, which serves two Bronx public schools in the same building. The Health Educator will be responsible for community outreach, health education, and aiding individuals and families dealing with issues such as compliance with school regulations and school absenteeism. They will assist parents in obtaining certain benefits and services, such as welfare, medical care, and food resources.About Abbott HouseAbbott House is an innovative community-based organization that helps children, families, adults and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with complex needs build lasting foundations for a promising future. We operate programs in the New York Metropolitan area and Hudson Valley.Key ResponsibilitiesAssures the functioning of Community School core components are effectively linked to school plans, curriculum and fulfil basic principles of community schools.Serve as a Community School Success Mentor to address the barriers that prevent students from attending school consistently.Develops programs that aim to increase educational opportunities and social connections for children.Facilitate workshops for parents and families that are in need of educational and health services. Conduct home visits to provide technical assistance on implementation of range of programs and school interventions.Continually update family resource page on the program website.Help promote teacher and staff wellness by creating a monthly Self Care Newsletter.Any other related duties as required.About YouYou are the ideal candidate if you are enjoy working in the social services field while empowering underserved communities. Being compassionate, reliable, self-motivated, and a team player are critical attributes to be successful in this role.You have two to four years of experience as a Health Educator working with children and families.You have knowledge of child development.You are proficient in Spanish and English both written and oral required.You have the ability to adhere to school policies and principles.You have the ability to organize, prioritize and respond to deadlines while working on multiple task.You have effective oral and written communication skills.
