Overview: An echocardiography technician is responsible for operating sonographic equipment for the performance of a variety of echocardiograms (Echo, SE, and assisting in TEE) and communication of the results of diagnostic examinations.Responsibilities:Prepare patients, explain procedure to patients and prepare the diagnostic equipment for imaging procedures.Assist physician interpret the data from the images and determines which images should be saved and which can be discarded. Informs physician if graph shows any gross abnormality.Obtain graph of patients heart action by positioning electrodes and manipulating proper dials.Wheels portable EKG machine to patients bedside to record as required.Enters all required information into ledger on a daily basis. Files reports according to procedures.Cut and mount EKGs on a special form.Type reports instead of cutting and mounting.Prepare EKGs for interpretation by obtaining previous records of patient for comparison.May be asked to assist in placing the EKGs on patients chart.Maintains electrodes and machines on a daily basis.Performs other duties as requested.Qualifications: Education:Graduate of an approved EKG course.Experience:Minimum of six (6) months of EKG experience, preferably in a hospital setting.Knowledge and Skills:Good communication skillsFamiliar with procedures necessary to perform EKGs on infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.Knowledge of equipment use and maintenance requirements.Licenses, Certifications:Certificate of completion from an approved ultrasound program.Active certification by ARDMS or CCI in Cardiology is expected.Preferably RDCSPhysical Requirements:Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
