The SPARC organization manages Azures hardware roadmap from architecture concept through production for all of Microsofts current and future on-line services. Well-defined and executed strategic planning ensures products meet the requirements for performance, features, and time-to-market. The ability to draw insights from a deep understanding of the cloud HW Infrastructure landscape and industry trends is critical in informing the roadmap and planning decisions. Deep technical understanding of our hardware architecture, workload modeling and analysis are necessary to making informed, data-driven decisions. Our hardware technology pathfinding work helps keep our product portfolio competitive by maturing new concepts for productization. Together these functions are able to create a strategic hardware and technology roadmap. This position is a Senior Principal Manager System Architect in the SPARC organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for pathfinding and development of the system architecture and engineering aspects of memory systems and memory technologies to deliver leading-edge capabilities for Azures global customers.As memory is a large driver of both system performance and cost, the work entails driving memory innovation and alignment with expertsboth inside and outside of Microsoftin areas such as workloads, platforms, memory interfaces (e.g., CXL and JEDEC levels), and memory technologies. This is a management role with substantial technical responsibilities that require deep technical understanding. Responsibilities The candidate will collaborate closely with system engineers and architects in theAzureservices team, various software development teams acrossMicrosofts online properties, and engineering teams at external silicon and systems vendors. Manage a small/medium-size high performing architecture team. Help drivethe memory architecture of Azure host computers, targeting the three-to-six-year timeframe. Simulate, incubate,and/orprototypesystem technologiesto demonstrate their viability Deliver either binary compatible innovation or, when the software view must change, coordinate with various partner teams in Microsoft (Azure Cloud, MicrosoftResearch, OS/Hyper-V software, Hardware design, etc.), especially to ensure end-to-end software-hardware system solutions Likelyparticipate in industry standard bodies and consortia todriveemergingtechnologies relevant to memory systems and memory technologies Engage with Azures supplier ecosystemon collaborations thatdeliver on the above charter Qualifications Required Qualifications: 12+ years of technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years of technical engineering experience OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience PreferredQualifications: 15+years of experiencein memory system architecture with demonstratedtrack record ofsuccess 5+ years of management experience or leading significant projects. Background in the interaction with hardware from systems software (OS, Hypervisor, Drivers, Firmware) and applications. Skilled in partnering and influencing system engineers, computer architects, hardware design engineers and executives Experience leading and driving complex projectswith respect and integrity including thosewith multiple workstreams spanning different business and technical disciplines Intellectual curiosity and a passion about learning and deploying new technologies Problem-solvingskills, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail Effective verbal and written communication skills Background in computer and systems architecture,with thorough understanding of system software (OS, Drivers, Firmware) anditsinteraction with the hardware platform Hardware Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
