Job Description Job DescriptionJob Summary: Provide transport and administrative services in support of St. Hubert's Sister Shelter WayStation Program which coordinates and executes the transport of 3,500 + dogs per year between 80 source and destination partners throughout the country offering a unique hands-up approach to our source partners by assisting in both coordination and driving.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Provide transport services:Responsible for safe and humane transport of animals following all best practices of transport. Safely operate and maneuver a large vehicle, in compliance with rules and regulations for passenger and animal transport.Load and unload dogs in a safe and humane manner under the direction of transfer coordinators. Provide administrative services:Update and maintain WayStation Program agreements, spreadsheets, and files.Research and compile information to support WayStation Program as needed.Enter and track animals in the animal management software system.Keep track of post-transport reports and communicate with partners.Maintain good relationships with transport partners.Keep current on St. Hubert's policies and common animal welfare practices and be able to communicate these properlyAlways represent St. Hubert's in a professional and courteous manner. Provide quality service to the public, volunteers, and employees recognizing their individual contributions to the success of the organization. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.Qualifications and Requirements:Knowledge of animal behavior and proper handling skills, and willingness and ability to handle dogs, cats, and other species with or without assistance.Knowledge of or ability to learn best practices in animal transport and emergency procedures.Ability to read medical paperwork/spreadsheets and recognize medical issues at intake.Proficiency in humane medical animal handling practices, including the ability to obtain certification in animal first aid.Knowledge of general office procedures. Proficiency with computer technology to efficiently accomplish work, using Microsoft Office programs, email, and the internet.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation. Ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and professionally with a variety of individuals representing the public, board members, volunteers, donors, and employees. Ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.Ability to be flexible, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, the public, and other stakeholders.Able to work well under pressure, in emotionally charged situations, and handle confrontation politely and professionally while finding a solutionLove of animals and ability to interact with them in a calm, non-threatening mannerPossess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.Ability to work after hours, on weekends, and on holidays as needed.Ability to safely operate and maneuver large organization vehicles.Passion for St. Hubert's mission, and for caring for all animals regardless of age, breed, temperament, or species, and supporting and educating members of the public, free of judgment or bias.Physical Requirements and Work Environment:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.Regularly moves about all locations to coordinate work.Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted regularly, 50+ pounds assisted.Ability to be comfortable working with cats, dogs, small animals, reptiles, fish, and wildlife.Ability to perform strenuous physical activity daily, including but not limited to lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, standing, squatting, and bending.Ability to safely manage exposure to chemicals, dust, dirt, water, stacked material, varying temperatures, and electrical equipment.Due to the nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals; hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures.Education and Experience:Minimum one year of experience in an animal shelter environment.Salary premium may be offered for multilingual candidates proficient in Spanish, French, and Mandarin.
